As an amateur nature photographer, I like to think of my work as a modest reflection of nature's unparalleled beauty.   Ultimately, of course, any photographic image will fall short of capturing something that is best experienced first-hand.

In terms of camera equipment, I use the Nikon D5 and D750 (full frame sensor), or the Nikon D500 (crop sensor) when I desire a bit more 'reach' with my lenses.  My modest lens collection consists of the Nikkor 80-400mm zoom lens, the Nikkor 300mm f4 PF prime lens, and the Nikkor 500mm f5.6 PF prime lens.   I find that this gear gives me the freedom to shoot mostly without a tripod and to be ready for those 'spur of the moment' photos.

Speaking of equipment, I have come to believe (though not everyone will agree) that expensive equipment is no substitute for patience, dedication, a touch of artistry, and a good dose of luck!  Your love of the outdoors and simple camera equipment can often work wonders!  What matters most is that you enjoy 'the moment', as I enjoyed this one:
