Coyotes
In some areas, and particularly in and near cities, coyotes are spotted even more frequently than foxes. Once found primarily in the southern and western parts of North America, coyotes have successfully expanded their range to most of North America in recent decades. They have withstood extensive hunting, trapping and persecution, and in many parts of their range have interbred with wolves and stray dogs to produce hybrids that have adapted extremely well to co-existence with humans. Unfortunately, well-intentioned but misguided feeding of coyotes by some urban residents has caused coyotes to lose their natural fear of humans, and occasionally coyotes can pose a danger to pets and even to small children if they are left unsupervised.
